Diesel and natural gas condensate releases from site operations and pipeline failure resulted in soil and groundwater impact. Tight clays and groundwater fluctuations created of hydrocarbon impact in the capillary fringe and vados zone soils.
Rubik excavated and treated 7,000 cubic yards of hydrocarbon impacted soil, and created up and downgradient permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) at the ends of the excavation to successfully treat groundwater in the area. Additional treatment zones were created to treat groundwater with Oxygen Release Compound (ORC®) in hydrocarbon-impacted areas throughout the site. Additional cone penetrometer test and Ultra-Violet Optical Screening Tool (CPT-UVOST) assessment iwas performed identify areas of residual hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater to evaluate remedial options and complete site cleanup.
